Culinary: Chocolate time @Coklat Monggo

Who doesn't love chocolate?? I guess most of people love chocolate. Now...for chocolate lovers, if you visit Yogya, you can find the most delicious chocolate-100% produced from Indonesian cocoa- that is...Coklat Monggo. The owner of Coklat Monggo is a belgian chocolatier who lived in Yogyakarta.

Located at Kotagede, Jl Dalem KG III/978, you can find the outlet easily. Just go to the Kotagede traditional market (Pasar Kotagede) then just ask people there about the direction to Coklat Monggo outlet.

The chocolate itself made from dark chocolate and milk free...so for people with lactosa allergic..this chocolate is 'friendly' for you. The taste is really good....!! Slightly bitter but my 4 years old son loves it so much. They have praline, caramel, strawberry, dark chocolate, and ginger flavor.
Actually...you also can find Coklat Monggo products at Mirota Batik, Circle K, and supermarkets. But...if we buy at the outlet we can see 'the chocolate kitchen' from the store.
And the cozy outlet..I'm sure you won't mind if you have to stay longer there, eating chocolate and have a chit chat with your friends.

If you buy Coklat Monggo from the outlet, I give you one tip. The cashier sometimes make a mistake on giving the change. So you have to count back the change before you leave the store.

HAPPY CHOCOLATE SHOPPING!!!

Culinary: Gadri Resto...try the King's favorite cuisine

When I heard about Gadri Resto from my friend, I thought it was just an ordinary restaurant, serving traditional foods and that's all. But she convinced me that Gadri Resto is just more than an ordinary restaurant. You will love it, that's what she said. Located at JL. Rotowijayan no.5 Kraton, Yogyakarta, near the west gate of Kraton (Sultan’s Palace) Jogjakarta, the restaurant's ambiance is totally adopted from Keraton (The King's Palace in Yogyakarta). This restaurant is actually the owner resident -GPBH Joyokusumo- the younger brother of Sultan.

The Food
The Resto serves traditional cuisines and some of them is Sultan's favorites such as nasi blawong, pudding manuk nom, wedang secang and bir Jawa.

Wedang Secang: secang tea-mixed with cinnamon, ginger, etc.

Bir Jawa: is not a 'beer' actually...spicy drink with lime essence

Puding Manuk enom: a pudding made from fermentation rice served with emping

Nasi Blawong

Nasi Gurih

The Uniqueness

Besides tasting the royal cuisine, we can take a house-tour...off course you should make an appointment with the owner.
You can see how the javanesse house is, the bed that used for sultan's delivery, and many things about keraton and the procedures within the palace.

Culinary: House of Raminten: the new way to eat 'nasi kucing'.

Have you ever heard "nasi kucing"? In Yogya, this is very popular. Nasi Kucing is a rice with oseng tempe , or sambel teri as a dishes and usually served wrapped in paper. This kind of food can be categorized as hawker food so it usually sell at stalls.
Nowadays in Yogya, 'nasi kucing' can be found at the restaurant. House of Raminten-located in Jl. FM Noto 7 Kotabaru Yogya- brings the 'angkringan' concept into a restaurant.
This restaurant is.unique. You could feel the java atmosphere here from the first time you walked into this restaurant. I could smell the aroma of the myrrh. The waiters and the waitress were wearing a javanese traditional clothes. The waitress wearing the 'kemben' and the waiters wearing a 'jarit' with black vest and white shirt.

.

What about the dishes? Like i said in previous, this restaurant brings the angkringan concept so usually many people chose nasi kucing for the dishes and completed by sate or other side dishes..But, if you don't want it, you can choose other dishes such as noodles, fried rice, soto, fried chicken, bubur ayam (chicken porridge) or you just can choose the snacks.
